Ordinary Membership in the Council

Any person, firm, Company or other Corporation who has exports of cashew kernels, cashew nut shell liquid or Cardanol during the previous 12 calendar months is eligible for admission as member of the Council in the person’s, firm’s, member or corporate or trade name, provided that no person, firm, company or Corporation shall be eligible for admission as a member of the Council if any claim or complaint arising out of foreign trade transaction approved by the Council pending against any such person, firm, company or other Corporation or if such person, firm, company or other corporation has been lawfully black listed by any authority.

The minimum exports for membership would be:

  • For Cashew Kernels - 30 MT (2 containers)
  • For Cashew nut Shell Liquid – the exported quantity of the item will be given 5 times weightage
  • For Consumer Packs – the export quantity of the item will be given 15 times weightage

Exports can be any of the commodities listed above separately or in combination (CK and/ or CNSL and /or CP) to attain the 30 MT stipulated as the minimum quantity to apply for the membership of the Council.

Approval of name as a prospective exporter of cashew kernels/cashew nut shell liquid for enrolment as a member can be taken prior.

Benefits of CEPCI

Cashew exporters can benefit from many schemes and incentives provided by CEPCI. The main function of the Cashew Export Promotion Council of India is to help and guide exporters as they expand their businesses. Below are some of the benefits for exporters:

Trade shows and fairs
The association organizes several trade exhibits and fairs that provide members with commercial opportunities and a platform to network with other exporters in the industry. Exporters can benefit from this since it increases their earnings and offers them access to crucial networking opportunities.
Exporters frequently need to travel internationally to meet clients and importers. Such visits are frequently made at short notice. As a result, exporters may have trouble obtaining a VISA in a short period of time. In these situations, CEPCI suggests that exporters ask relevant authority for VISA permissions. Exporters’ visa application process is accelerated and made simpler by CEPCI’s proposal because it is a government-run organization.
The Cashew Export Promotion Council of India conducts several workshops and seminars to provide exporters training in a variety of skills that aid in the growth and expansion of their businesses. This training helps exporters comprehend numerous skills for the dynamic and developing global industry.
Exporters can obtain business loans from their partner financial institutions with the aid of CEPCI. It assists its members financially and offers recommendations to exporters for acceptance of business loans from other financial institutions.

Mediates between exporters and the Government

Along with offering exporters with schemes, CEPCI also acts as a mediator between the Government and exporters if any special requests or communications are required. To benefit its members, CEPCI also helps draft new export and trade laws and regulations.

Generalised System of Preference (GSP):

This system is implemented to support developing countries by giving them preference in trade tariffs from industrialised and developed countries. It is a non-contractual instrument that is unilateral and is based on a non-reciprocity extension of tariff concessions.

Global System of Trade Preference (GSTP):

This system extends tariff concessions between developing countries who are parties to an agreement. Export Inspection Council (EIC) has the sole authority to issue Certificate of Origin under GSTP.

SAARC Preferential Trading Agreement (SAPTA):

Tariff concession extends only to countries in SAARC.

Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA):

Presently, India, China, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh exchange tariff concession under APTA. APTA offers liberalisation of tariff and non-tariff barriers in order to expand trade in goods in the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP) region.

India-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (ISLFTA):

This agreement is a free trade agreement between India and Sri Lanka. Under this agreement, EIC has the sole authority to issue Certificate of Origin.

Indo-Thailand Free Trade Agreement:

This agreement between India and Thailand is to implement the Early Harvest Scheme where products under this protocol are given tariff preference. Early Harvest Scheme under India-Thailand Free Trade Agreement offers tariff preferences for imports on items, which satisfy Rules of Origin criteria notified by the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance vide notification no. 101/2004-Customs dated 31.08.2004. Export Inspection Council is the sole agency to issue Certificate of Origin under this protocol.

For membership, application may be submitted in the prescribed format. Documents to be submitted along with the application form are:

1. Proof of having requisite export of cashew kernels/cashew nut shell liquid viz. copies of bill of lading/invoice/ attested by a Chartered Accountant, Address proof of the Registered office, Self-attested copy of IEC, copy of the Partnership deed / Memorandum, Factory license / SSI registration for manufacturer exporter, address proof and passport size photograph of authorised representative.

2. The following payments are to be made:

a. Entrance Fee Rs.20,000/-
b.Annual Membership Fee Rs.8500/- (For subsequent years, this will be Rs. 8500/= at the current rate.
c. Trade contribution @ Rs. 2.5 per carton for cashew kernel and Rs. 15/- per MT of CNSL / Cardanol based on the exports during the previous year subject to a minimum of Rs. 8,000/- and maximum of Rs. 1,10,000/-
d. GST @18% to be added for all above payments.

The membership of the Council is granted for a period of one year, i.e. from 1st April to 31st March.
The membership has to be renewed every year.
