ABOUT FSSAI

FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (FSSAI Act) which is a consolidating statute related to food safety and regulation in India. It ensures the food products undergo quality checks thereby curtailing the food adulteration and sale of sub-standard products. It is responsible for the registering and licensing of the Food Business Operators (FBO) in India and it lays down the rules and regulations for running the food business in India.

Food License or FSSAI was Introduce to achieve three objectives:

Every type of business that deals in food products requires FSSAI Registration or License as per the requirement such as Dhaba, Restaurants, canteen, club, wholesaler, retailer, distributor, supplier, Storage, transporter, hawker, marketer, food processor, etc.FSSAI Registration is different from FSSAI License in the sense that depending on the size and nature of the business, FBO should obtain the necessary registration or license.It is a 14-digit registration or a license number that is printed on all the food packages. The 14 digit registration number gives details about the assembling state, producer’s permit. This registration procedure is aimed to create more accountability on the FBO to maintain the quality of the food products. The licensing and registration procedure and requirements are regulated by Food Safety & Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations, 2011.

1. Blueprint/layout plan of the processing unit showing the dimensions in meters/square meters and operation-wise area allocation

2. Name and List of Equipment’s and Machinery along with the number, installed capacity, and horsepower used

3. List of food categories desired to be manufactured

4. Authority letter with name and address of the responsible person nominated by the manufacturer along with the alternative responsible person indicating the powers vested with them viz assisting the officers in inspections, collection of samples, packing & dispatch

5. Analysis report (Chemical & Bacteriological) of water to be used as an ingredient in food from a recognized/ public health laboratory to confirm the portability

6. Source of milk or procurement plan for milk including the location of milk collection centers etc. in the case of Milk and Milk Products processing units.(wherever applicable)

7. Source of raw material for meat and meat processing plants. (wherever applicable)

8. Pesticide residues report of water in case of units manufacturing packaged drinking water, packaged Mineral water, and/or carbonated water from a recognized/ public health laboratory.

9. Recall plan wherever applicable, with details on whom the product is distributed

10. Upload Production unit photograph

11. Copy of Establishment

12. List of Trustees

13. Resolution of The Society / Trust

14. NOC & Copy of License from manufacturer
